Warlingham, Surrey - floating, post-tensioned stone staircase

Positioned at the centre of the entrance hall, this floating post-tensioned stone staircase was conceived as a calm yet striking architectural focal point within a luxury interior. Its gentle curve gives the staircase a light and graceful presence, while the solid stone construction brings a sense of permanence, craftsmanship, and quiet confidence.

The balustrade is formed from structural low-iron glass, set directly into the stone steps and finished with a beautifully detailed timber handrail. Because the glass is exceptionally clear, it almost disappears, allowing the sculptural form of the stone staircase and the flowing line of the handrail to define the space with remarkable subtlety.

The result is an elegant luxury staircase that feels refined, modern, and effortless — a bespoke stone staircase where structural innovation and understated design come together beautifully.
